The Taming of the Shrew at Southwark Playhouse, London

Shakespeare’s feistiest comedy The Taming of the Shrew is relocated to 21st century London. Brixton girl Kate has no time for smooth-talking Sloane Petruchio, but her traditional father thinks he’s perfect.

In the ensuing battle of the sexes, Petruchio’s arrogance and Kate’s carefully constructed aggression crumble as they discover there’s more to love than sharing the same postcode.

The Taming of the Shrew is showing at Southwark Playhouse, London Bridge.

‘Very impressive. This updated version of the play works well… funny, innovative and mercifully cringe-free… in Southwark Playhouse’s capable hands the Bard does seem to be at home in modern day Brixton’
The Stage
'The verse is generally spoken well, although Tranio (Simon Ginty [tag]) truly shines, speaking both distinctly and with an accessible charm that many actors rarely achieve; he is one to watch...'
Whatsonstage
‘[Simon Darwen and Elexi Walker’s] sparkling exchanges sizzle with an honest and believable chemistry that is, surprisingly, rather touching… The production is lively and fun, the characterization quirky, and there are stand out performances from Walker and Ginty [tag]. Shrewd theatre-goers should give it a go’
